Kimzey Hind Leg Saver Splints

The hind splint is formed to match the anatomy of a hind leg keeping it in a more natural position.  A removable spacer bar, made of 5/8″ aluminum bar, is located on the back of the hoof holder.  The spacer bar, when attached, provides seven degrees of incline to relieve pressure at the injured area.

Note:  In some cases the splint for “tip-toe” position is used for a hind leg injury.  Look at the photo of Dakota below.  Is this the position you want the patient’s leg to be in, or does the patient need to be in a “tip-toe” position to relieve pressure from the back of the leg?

When choosing the appropriate splint length, keep in mind that the top of the splint should stop below the knee.

Standard (thoroughbred) Splint has a total length of 20 inches (51 cm) with a hoof holder measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) inside.

Quarter Horse Splint has a total length of 18 inches (46 cm) with a hoof holder measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) inside.

 Warm-blood Splint has a total length of 20 inches (51 cm) with a hoof holder measuring 6 1/4 inches (16 cm) inside.
